Biopsy Results for Janeth and More ...

Just a little note to update you on a couple things…

A while ago, I mentioned Janeth having a biopsy taken… and waiting for the results…  A little history to remind you who I’m talking about… She and Ricardo left the streets at least 6 years ago when they moved to a town 50 kilometers north to be caretakers of a little piece of land…  Janeth has dedicated herself to looking after her 6 kids (and in certain seasons making reed mats to sell) while Ricardo works at a soy/corn mill where they make animal feed…  He gets paid very little but there are a few benefits like the farm truck to pick him up and drop him off… and being able to bring some feed home for the animals they are raising… (right now two pigs and 9 chickens… they used to have 2 small cows but they had to sell one when their youngest son got sick… and the other one died…)

Unloveable ...

Have you ever met an unlovable person?

I know, I know.  God loves everyone… and as His children we are called to love like He does…  The issue here isn’t whether we should love the person or not… but rather… sometimes, we come across someone who is extra hard to love… who, no matter how hard you try to be kind, they have a prickly edge to them, a dissatisfied reaction, a disgruntled response…  We eventually avoid that person rather than keep on trying… (and that person becomes even more alone and gruff.)

Maribel was that person for me…  I met her back in 1996… never happy… always demanding something but never thankful, never content…  Her tone of voice, facial expressions, attitudes and actions pushed others away…   Her “glue jar” was never far from her nose… sometimes it would be shoved down her shirt if the police were going by or if I insisted I didn’t want to talk without her putting the glue away…

I wrote the other day about Tania urgently needing an operation on her fractured jaw… and the piece of bone or whatever was causing her pain and infection… The urgency came from the danger of the infection spreading…  Even with the surgeon operating for free, I was told it might be close to $1000 by the time we paid for a clinic, anesthesiologist, the plates for the fracture, medicines etc…

The surgeon knows a night time talk show host (Enrique) who always gives space for a couple needy people to publicly make their plea for help…  There are so many desperately needy people who want to be on his program, there is no guarantee you will be chosen… Enrique happened to have an appointment at the surgeon’s on Wednesday, so the surgeon suggested making the connection there…

Urgent Requests

I hope you don’t get tired of reading my letters… Sometimes I feel like there are  very few “dull” moments… each day is filled with different needs and circumstances…

Do you want to know what happened today?  I got a phone call while I was at the weekly planning meeting at El Jordan… It was Janeth… Her voice broke, “Could I come by and talk to you?”
