Knowing God

This month, we set aside a week at El Jordan to take all of our Bible Studies OUT to serve rather than studying inside…  My “new girls” decided they wanted to go to the streets… Matilde gave 10 bolivianos ($1.50 US) from her money from “watching cars” towards making a snack to take with us to the “woods” where I took “Christmas on the Streets” in 2014…  I first met Alejandro, Cristian and Alejandra (in their early twenties) years ago on the streets sniffing glue…  They now live in bushes, under bridges, withdrawn from society and addicted to cocaine paste… Matilde was the leader of our ¨pack¨ because we were on her old stomping grounds…  Elizabeth, whose family has been involved in addictions but never on the streets, broke down in tears, seeing this sad reality for the first time…  My heart was touched listening to Rocio passionately share her experiences and sufferings from the streets and how God was helping her change…

Day by Day

Hi everyone!!!

This morning, two fourteen year olds sat on the couch at El Jordan. The girl quietly hung her head. She had puffy, red eyes… The boy with his dyed, gelled hair awkwardly laughed, not really sure how he was supposed to act… She had rolled over in her sleep and smothered their six week old baby…

They had just decided to call him “Etsy”… but even before they got his birth certificate, they were trying to figure out how to get a little coffin and a death certificate…

Flashback… I first met the boy´s mom maybe 10 or 12 years ago… She was standing outside El Jordan´s gate, with her deceased baby boy… While sleeping on the streets, she too, had unknowingly rolled over on her 11 day old baby… Sadly, history repeating itself…

Something ... a G Something ...

Well… I´m here packing… and all of a sudden I remembered something…

A friend of mine here (whose parents were friends with my parents here in Bolivia before I was born) has a little boy (5 years old) who was born healthy but at 4 months of age had complications with his reflux something or other… and since then has stayed at that mental development age… so he can´t sit, talk, move very much at all… he has been on oxygen most of his life, he has a terrible time with phlegm in his lungs… and he can´t even swallow his spit… His parents used to be involved in full time ministry but with the medical needs of their son, the dad had to find a new job (in Compassion International) and they also moved to Santa Cruz where the ¨thicker” air would be better for him…
