Well… I’m really bad with birthdays… I have a hard time, not remembering, but actually doing something, for birthdays of even the people closest to me…   However… birthdays have been on my mind a lot lately… I’ve come to realize, once again, how important birthdays are to many others – especially to our kids…

Just the other day it was Mery’s birthday (August 6th).  Weeks ahead of time, Mery reminded me countless times about her birthday…  Disappointment flashed across her face when I told her I probably wouldn’t make it out to her little “place” on her birthday  (some of you have been out to visit her before – you might never have seen a poorer place, but at the same time, you’ve probably rarely met up with such simple sincerity in a hostess or heard such joyful laughter in the kids…).  When she came to class the day after her birthday, a special cake was waiting for her – to share with her teacher and the other students… Mery who usually more shyly stands by the sidelines in class and activities, got to be the center of attention… It was her day…  I don’t think it was just the shower that she took at El Jordán that made her face shine as she left our place that day…

Well… I’m still using the e-mail on the old computer… so… if you know someone who has a newer address that isn’t getting my updates, could you forward it for me?  Thank you!

I want to thank you all again for your prayers and your support…  you have encouraged us with your prayers, your notes, your interest in what God is doing here in Bolivia…  You are special and important to us… Thanks!!!

We believe that we are in a spiritual battle…  The Bible talks about it… that our struggle/fight isn’t against flesh and blood, but rather against powers and principalities.  At El Jordán, we are working with kids and young people who have been on the streets, drugs or on the brink of slipping into this lifestyle… but who desire change.

Well, here we are... continuing on in the ups and downs of our lives...trying to keep our eyes on Christ and the "things above"... but sometimes its hard when things don't go the way you think they should!!!! =) Problems with my vehicle... and problems with the computer are things that seem to plague me... I got my truck to my front door on Tuesday from the body shop... and the battery died... I got a new battery... when the whole electrical system went kaput... the mechanic thought it was the "brain"...which would cost $400 just for the parts... but he wouldn't be able to tell me for sure until he worked on it more the next day... It turned out to be a fuse!!! ...so that was great news... but now my computer is acting up and I can't use my e-mail on it.. I'm using the e-mail on my old computer, but the addresses aren't updated... Hopefully I'll get my laptop up and going again soon... I had plans to write another update... but that might have to wait a bit...
